Reader's Digest March 2020
This is part of the monthly magazine series Reader's Digest. This month, the one of the most captivating articles was the story of a Muslim exchange student from Pakistan and a Christian from Texas.
Sabika Sheikh had come from Pakistan as part of a United States government program to allow some 900 Muslim students to study in the US for a year. On her first day, she met Jaelyn Cogburn, a shy girl from a large, Christian family. The girls became nearly inseparable over the course of Sabika's stay, with Sabika even moving into Jaelyn's house. Then, on May 18, 2018, days before she was due to return to Pakistan, tragedy struck. That morning, a junior at Santa Fe High School went on a shooting spree, killing Sabika and nine others. This misfortune is yet another reason we should consider stricter gun control (Sorry. I usually try to be more objective).
