Quick COVID update. More than 4 million people have tested positive, with hundreds of thousands dying. Most people do recover, but its death rate is higher than the seasonal flu. Over a fourth of cases are in the US, with nearly 1.5 million infections. Beyond that, the jobless rate is now 14.7 %, the highest its been since the Great Depression, as people are laid off and lose jobs. Some artists are using creativity to stay positive. They have drawn what they have been doing in their spare time, for example, the image at left. They encourage us to use creativity, instead of using tutorials. Fog is what happens when clouds condense at low altitude, and you can make your own! Pour boiling water in a jar for a few minutes, pour all but a little bit out, and put a strainer full of ice on top. The cool air on top mixes with the rising hot air to form indoor fog. Did you know that people once hated lobsters? They once washed up on beaches without humans bothering them. Now, lobster fishing is such a big industry that there are tours to watch people catch lobsters.

Many countries have begun to change their responses to the pandemic. South Korea was due to reopen schools today but was not able to do so due to a new flare-up in Seoul, causing a one-week delay. Britain is allowing its citizens to go out for exercise, and Germany is allowing restaurants to reopen this week, though they could go back under lockdown if cases rise again. The Spanish can now move about their neighborhoods with churches and other public venues reopened. The picture shows Shanghai's Disneyland which has now reopened. It is socially distanced, however, with thorough checks before entry. Also, scientists have evidence that key moments from the film Jurassic Park may have been inaccurate. The Velociraptor was most likely smaller and furrier than depicted, and most of the dinosaurs probably had vibrant colors, not just green and brown.

Many states are preparing to reopen as the jobless rate climbs and business owners complain. But there are concerns that reopening too quickly could cause a new surge in cases. This is why antibody testing is important. It can trace who has had the virus and possibly spread it. But what are antibodies? They are proteins that the body uses to slow the infection from a virus and help white blood cells fight it off. It is usually retained after a virus is fought off so that you can't get the same virus again, but for some viruses, like the cold, this doesn't happen. Scientists do not know yet if antibodies are retained for COVID-19, and for how long. The London Underground is the oldest subterranean tunnel in the world. And today, we take a look at its oldest section, a part that hasn't been seen by the public since 1924. It's the old Moorgate station, and it was opened in the mid-1800s, even being used as a shelter during World War II.

Researchers around the world are racing to develop a vaccine or treatment for the coronavirus. Thousands of people have died from the virus, but many others have recovered. Hospitals are getting better at preparing for and treating patients. Reopening plans vary across the nation. Some states are allowing businesses to reopen despite not having 14 straight days of decline in infection rates. Prices of certain goods are going up, and restaurant owners are feeling the effects as they are forced to limit their menus and raise prices. Canada is considering tightened restrictions on the US-Canada border as well. On the ISS, astronauts are performing science experiments - with slime. Slime acts differently in space due to its viscosity (resistance to flowing) and the anti-gravity of space. The USS Nevada was known as the unsinkable battleship. It was the only ship to move during the Pearl Harbor attacks during World War I, survived 2 nuclear bomb tests later in World War II, and was finally sunk by a torpedo during Navy drills.

Grocery prices are going up due to a series of events caused by the pandemic. First, more people started to cook at home as restaurants closed, and food producers had to redirect food to grocery stores, which was difficult. Some processing plants also had to shut down due to coronavirus cases, further backing up the food supply. In addition, some shoppers panicked and started panic buying, or buying more food than necessary, depleting shelves and causing stores to set item limits. There are many efforts to stop the coronavirus, but unless efforts are coordinated, they could be seriously hindered. This involves heavy testing, tracing, and treatment, along with coordinated planes across state and international borders in order to keep the virus in check. Although Belize isn't the smallest country in South America, it has the smallest population. It also has many natural attractions including rainforests, cenotes, and hiking trails.
