Tropical Storm Isaias is the 9th hurricane this Atlantic season. It is moving through Florida and slowed to a tropical storm from hurricane on Sunday, but it is still plenty dangerous. It is expected to dump rain and flood much of the East Coast. There is also a full moon coming up, increasing tides and the effects of the storm. COVID-19 will also impede rescue efforts. COVID-19 is also affecting the NFL. Football is expected to start as scheduled in September with the necessary precautions, even though many players have already tested positive during training camp. NFL officials are confident that proper sanitization and social distancing will be kept by its players. They will also have the option of using specialized helmets for further protection. Unlike the NBA, it will also be traveling, with each team playing at their respective stadiums. The chief medical officer believes that this will encourage players to maintain safety off the field to ensure not only their safety but also their team's. The Players' Association has also agreed on extensive testing during the season.

Election Day is on November 3rd, just 3 months away. The candidates are incumbent President Trump and the presumptive Democratic nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden. But it has already been months of preparation and campaigning. So how exactly do we get to the November general election? First, the primaries. This is when voters get to decide who the candidates for their political party are. Then, at each party's convention, the delegates from each state get to vote on the candidates. The candidate with the majority of the delegates goes on to the general election. The month prior to voting, they face off for the first time in a debate to help voters make up their minds. When voting time comes around, people can vote by mail, vote early, or vote on Election Day. In the US, the system of the electoral college is used, with each state getting votes proportional to the number of seats they have in the House. The candidate with the majority in one state gets all of its electoral votes. The candidate that gets over 270 electoral votes wins the presidency. Astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley have returned to Earth months after they flew the first NASA mission from US soil in 9 years to the ISS. They also flew the first commercially operated spacecraft in a government mission in the SpaceX Crew Dragon. SpaceX also has a contract with NASA to provide future space capsules and Moon mission spacecraft.

As the pandemic changes how people work, it is changing where they want to live as well. People once moved to the urban areas to join in the vibe and in-person interactions of those big cities. But in London, as in many other places, that feeling is gone, replaced by silence. It's making people consider the suburbs to get what the city can't give them. Parks, gardens, affordability. In fact, some have already moved away to work from home offices. The pandemic has also affected sports. We talked about the NFL's reopening plan on Monday. The MLB has reopened but faced many postponements as players and staff tested positive for COVID-19. Commissioner Rob Manfred has said that if teams don't get it under control, the league could shut down for the season. Schools in many parts of the country have reopened as well, but some parents are afraid to send their kids. In some districts, masks are recommended but not mandatory, sparking petitions. This is turn created a sort of anti-petition, with students claiming that requiring masks takes away freedom.

On Tuesday, a massive explosion rocked the city of Beirut, Lebanon. It was strong enough to be felt by earthquake detectors and was caused by confiscated stores of a highly combustible substance called ammonium nitrate. It killed over a hundred people and injured many more. The international community has offered help to the country, whose resources have already been stretched thin in the fight against COVID-19. In Bolivia, the pandemic has caused schools to be shut down for the year. Many of its residents live in rural areas without access to the Internet, making distanced learning impossible. It has also created many concerns about learning slides, but the government has made clear it believes it has made the best choice. During WWII, women were stereotypically thought to be making war supplies. But a group of them secretly worked as crypto-analysts. They were told that they would be killed if anyone found out about their real job. See the video for an interview with one of the women.
